Orphan Photos #57, #58 & #59

Orphan 0057 Leon Hagood

Orphan 0058 William, Charles, Leon Hagood

Orphan 0059 Horace Hagood

These photographs appear to be from the same family, the Hagoods.  All of them were photographed by Reed, located in Quincy, Illinois.  More information on the photographer can be found in the post Orphan Photos #32 & #33.

On the back of the first photo, it reads:

Leon Hagood—son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Hagood.
Died 1892

On the back of the second photo, it reads:

William Sears Hagood
Charles Hagood
Leon Hagood

On the back of the third photo, it reads:

Horace Hagood

Because the photographer imprint is different for each photo, it is assumed each was taken at a different time.  Since the back of the first photo indicates that Leon died in 1892, it is assumed that those two photos were taken before 1892.

Based on the research I did for the post mentioned above, I believe I have found the family in the 1900 census as living in LaGrange, Lewis, Missouri. [1]  The household lists the following people:

Name Relationship Month/Year of Birth Place of Birth
Horrace Hagood Head October 1856 Missouri
Zillah Hagood Wife November 1856 Missouri
Willie Hagood Son September 1884 Missouri
Charls [sic.] Hagood Son September 1887 Missouri
Kate Christing Servant January [?] 1876 Missouri
Arthur King Servant August 1876 Missouri
Robert Smith Servant March 1871 Missouri

Horace, Zillah, and William are found living together in the 1910 [2] and 1920 [3] census (living in Union, Lewis, Missouri) and 1930 [4] (living in LaGrange, Lewis, Missouri).  From the 1910, [5] 1920, [6] and 1930 [7] censuses, it would appear that Charles married a Mary, and had a daughter Hazel (b. about 1914-15).

Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find out more about the family, other than there was an SSDI listing for William Hagood, who dies in November 1965. [8]  I have not been able to determine if there are any living relatives who would like these photographs.  If you believe they are related to you, please contact me.

Far Side of Fifty

Hi Julie, It was so nice to find your blog..I do not recognize anyone..but I do appreciate the work that goes into the forgotten photos. I started a blog last October..and have actually placed a few photos back where they belong! http://forgottenoldphotos.blogspot.com/

That redheaded one

As I said before the Adams county and Mark Twain historical societies will have regional as well as city information and would be able to help you find the information (and possibly family) for all of these pictures.

incidentally if you happen to find any that have a marking of the last name Fuqua, or Willie, or Darrenger (spelled that way) please PLEASE email me! My mom's cousin has family trees for all 3 families.
